Group Discussion tips

GD Tips

Interview group discussion tips , DO'd and DON'Ts
Group Discussion Tips:-

Tip 1 : Brushing up on your general awareness is a must. Being aware of current affairs and issues and happenings, which affect our lives, however remotely, shows a well-rounded personality. Interest in one's environment is an essential quality for a manager, as only when he is well informed about all the facets is he able to take correct decisions. Make a habit of reading newspapers like TOI and Economic Times and general interest and business magazines like Frontline, Outlook and Business India.

Tip 2 : Being aware of current happenings is not enough. One must also form opinions on those happenings and issues that arise. Think about what you feel about different issues, say, terrorism. Write down your thoughts. Ask yourself why you feel that way, what are the premises underlying your thoughts and beliefs. Also question whether your point of view is based on facts, or on opinions and hearsay.

Tip 3 :
The process of opinion formation is incomplete without getting inputs from others. Get into the habit of discussing issues with your friends and family. Hear multiple points of view. Listen, question and argue. Express your opinion. If you are proven wrong, accept it with good grace. Modify your opinions as you go along. This will help you clear your own thought process plus it will get you into the habit of discussion.

Tip 4 : While discussing, learn to check your temper. Maybe you'll find others holding view which are abhorrent to you. But remember that they have a right to their opinions. Everyone does. HR Round Interview Question

The interviewer simply wants to check out whether you have come prepared. Your answers also signify how passionate you are for the job and the company. Therefore it’s a very important question. Your answer should reflect your knowledge about the company and passion for the job. If you state a simple answer and use tags it will definitely show that you have not done sufficient research.

You don’t have to list everything you know… just enough to let them know that you did your homework. Also, take a little time to give the company a compliment such as the last sentence. It is a psychological tool that you should use to your advantage. This type of compliment is directed at the company and the interviewer will be happy to hear this.

Your answers can be:

1) This company is the leader in delivering IT Solutions. It’s a global company in 18 different countries, and finally it’s one of the best companies to work for.

2) I learned that this Company has a great work environment and is anemployee oriented. It’s a place where strong contributors are rewarded. I want to work for a company with opportunities and I know this company will definitely provide me.

3) I learned that this company provides a strong core competency, very strong value systems and best practices so I believe I have a strong vision of viewing myself as a member of this company. Also it has one of the fastestgrowth rates and turnover in the industry and that would mean a faster growth rate for me as a professional.

4) The practices of your company are more employee and customer oriented. Also I learned from sources that this company provides services to large corporations and is a leader in IT Solutions. That’s why I ‘m excited to have the opportunity to join this company.

5) Well in my research I learned that your company headquarters are in Bangalore and that you have grown from one small office to over 48 locations in the last 5 years. I also know that at first you were primarily a brokerage firm and now diversified to provide IT solutions and Outsourcing.

HR Round Interview Questions and Answers

HR Job Interview - Why do you want to leave your current job/organization/company?This question looks very simple but it’s not that easy to answer it. What ever may be the reason always be truthful. Never bad-mouth your previous company, superiors and co-workers because it will definitely sound negative on your part. If you do so, the interviewer may think you may talk bad about his company the next time you’re looking for another job.

Also never speak a lie if you were fired. A background check will easily reveal everything. Try to deflect the reason from you personally. If your firing was the result of a takeover, merger, division wide layoff etc. tell them you were fired not for your mistakes or non performance but for the above reasons. If you were fired for not adhering to a company policy, tell the interviewer that you were asked to leave for violating a company policy which you felt was not communicated to you properly.

"Saying the truth will never let you down but will create a good impression on the interviewer."

There are many wrong answers to this question such as:

- I hate my job, my company and my boss.

- I’m sick of working there.

- I need more money.

- My co-workers never supported me and were jealous for my work.

- I was working with a small company and now looking forward to work with a bigger one.

- My company makes me work for more additional hours and was paying on a low scale.

"At the end of the day, it’s highly recommended to give a good answer that leaves a positive impression while displaying good traits."

Your answers can be:

1) I was looking for a position like this which is an excellent match for my skills and experience and I am not able to fully utilize them in my present job as there is very limited scope of growth. I am interested in a new challenge and an opportunity to use my technical skills and experience in a different capacity than I have in the past.

2) The company where I was working is a very large company and hence it’s difficult to do and learn different tasks. We had routine work that never changed. So I am looking for a work in an environment where I can utilize more of my skills.

3) I am looking forward to work in a company where there are more opportunities. My previous organization was very small and didn’t have opportunities for growth. I’m looking for a bigger challenge and to grow my careerAfter learning the work environment here, I felt this is exactly the type of place I want to work.

4) I was looking for a position like this which is an excellent match for my skills and experience and I am not able to fully utilize them in my present job as there is very limited scope for growth.

5) Recently my family relocated to this area to provide better education to my brothers and small sisters. So I am looking forward to work for a company closer to my new home. My previous job was far too away to commute.

6) I really enjoyed what I was doing but I felt I was following a routine. I looked around for more opportunities to grow, but because the company is small, I was very limited. I want to work in an environment that will help me to realize my full potential and a place I can contribute everything I’m capable of doing. My current position doesn’t provide these things for me; therefore I want to work here. I know this company has a lot of opportunities for growth and encourages employees to take on challenging projects to learn more. That’s what I’m looking for.

Three Rules for explaining a lay off are:

- Don't blame or sound angry with the company.

- Don't blame yourself.

- Try to end the answer to this question on a positive note by saying that you are looking forward to a new position with new responsibilities.

1) Due to a mass reorganization of the company, my entire department was eliminated. Now I'm looking forward to exploring new options for employment.

2) My company reduced its labor force to accommodate a major shift in business. My function in the company was moved to a site 2000 kilometers away where i chose not to relocate. I'm eager to pursue other positions in the local area.

The only information an employer can legally reveal about an ex- employee are:

Date of Joining.
- Title of the employee at the time of leaving the company.
- Last date with the company.

Question 5:
You are driving along in your car on a wild, stormy night, it's raining heavily,
when suddenly you pass by a bus stop, and you see three people waiting for a
bus:

- An old friend who once saved your life.
- The perfect partner you have been dreaming about.
Which one would you choose to offer a ride to, knowing very well that there
could only be one passenger in your car?
This is a moral/ethical dilemma that was once actually used as part of a job
application.
* You could pick up the old lady, because she is going to die, and thus you
should save her first;
* or you could take the old friend because he once saved your life, and this
would be the perfect chance to ! pay him back.
* However, you may never be able to find your perfect mate again...
The candidate who was hired (out of 200 applicants) had no trouble coming up
with his answer. Guess what was his answer?
-He simply answered:
"I would give the car keys to my Old friend and let him take the lady to the
hospital. I would stay behind and wait for the bus with the partner of my
dreams."
Sometimes, we gain more if we are able to give up our stubborn thought
limitations. Never forget to "Think Outside of the Box."

Question 6:
The interviewer asked to the candidate "This is your last question of the
interview. Please tell me the exact position of the center of this table where u
have kept your files."
-Candidate confidently put one of his finger at some point at the table and told
that this was the central point at the table.
Interviewer asked how did u get to know that this being the central point of
this table, then he answers quickly that sir u r not likely to ask any more
question, as it was the last question that u promised to ask.....
And hence, he was selected as because of his quick-wittedness.
This is What Interviewer expects from the Interviewee. ...."THINK OUTSIDE OF THE
BOX"
Have a Nice Day
